Changsha WES Academy was founded in 2010 through a joint partnership between the Changsha National Economic and Technical Development Zone Administrative Committee and WES Group of Singapore. We are the only international school in Hunan Province approved by the PRC Ministry of Education to use English as the primary language of instruction.
As an accredited member of the Council of International Schools (CIS), we offer Cambridge Assessment International Education and are an authorized International Baccalaureate (IB) World School. We are currently the only private school in Changsha awarded the title of "Founding School of Child-Friendly Schools of Changsha."
Our Location: Changsha is the capital and most populous city of Hunan Province in south-central China. With over 3,000 years of history, it is a famous historical and cultural city featuring attractions such as Yuelu Academy, Mawangdui Tomb, Kaifu Temple, Tianxin Pavilion, and Orange Island. Changsha has also emerged as one of China's happiest and most vibrant cities, known for its entertainment industry and internet culture.
Position Overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic and passionate Visual Arts Teacher to join our Elementary and Kindergarten division starting in August 2024. The successful candidate will inspire young learners through creative, inquiry-based art education aligned with IB standards and our school's commitment to fostering well-rounded, globally-minded students.
Contract: Initial two-year contract, renewable based on performance.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Curriculum:
- Demonstrate awareness of content and pedagogy in Visual Arts within the school context.
- Plan and prepare engaging Visual Arts lessons according to specified scope and sequence documents.
- Deliver an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant, and differentiated Visual Arts curriculum for all students.
- Conduct classes according to IB standards of practice, fostering creativity, critical thinking, and artistic expression.
- Utilize a variety of art media, techniques, and technologies to enhance student learning and engagement.
- Create a safe, inclusive, and stimulating classroom environment that respects diverse ethnic communities.
Assessment and Student Progress:
- Maintain accurate class records and document student progress and achievements.
- Assess student work using formative and summative methods aligned with IB standards.
- Provide timely, constructive feedback to students to support their artistic development.
- Celebrate student successes through exhibitions, displays, and school-wide events.
Collaboration and Professional Development:
- Plan collaboratively with the Arts Department for progressive Visual Arts development across grades.
- Work and collaborate with Homeroom teachers to integrate Visual Arts into cross-curricular themes.
- Collaborate with Homeroom teachers to prepare for assemblies, special events, and art exhibitions.
- Work with all relevant departments for special events planning and execution.
- Attend all relevant meetings as prescribed by the school and department.
- Engage in ongoing professional development to enhance teaching practice and artistic knowledge.
Co-Curricular and Whole-School Engagement:
- Contribute to the co-curricular programme and whole-school activities in a committed and enthusiastic manner.
- Enrich school culture by volunteering for committees, events support, and student clubs.
- Support school-wide initiatives such as art exhibitions, cultural celebrations, and community projects.
- Foster a positive, collaborative relationship with all members of staff, students, and parents.
Candidate Requirements
Essential Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree or above in Visual Arts, Fine Arts, Art Education, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of relevant teaching experience in Visual Arts at the elementary or kindergarten level.
- Teaching Skills: Demonstrated ability to deliver a broad, balanced, and differentiated Visual Arts curriculum.
- Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work cooperatively and supportively with all members of staff.
- Classroom Management: Strong class management skills and the ability to create a respectful, inclusive learning environment.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Experience with the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) or Middle Years Programme (MYP).
- Familiarity with Cambridge Assessment International Education curriculum.
- Experience in organizing art exhibitions, student showcases, or community art projects.
- Proficiency in digital art tools and technologies.
