Position Overview
Position: Chemistry Teacher (Secondary Division)
Reports To: Head of Secondary / Science Department Head
Start Date: August 2026
We are seeking an exceptional Chemistry Teacher to join our dynamic international school community. This role encompasses both teaching and pastoral responsibilities, requiring strong subject expertise, innovative teaching methods, and a commitment to fostering student success. The Chemistry Teacher will deliver engaging, inquiry-based lessons aligned with international curricula, support students' academic and personal development, and contribute to the school's culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning:
- Deliver high-quality Chemistry lessons aligned with international curricula (e.g., IB, IGCSE, A-Level, or equivalent).
- Design and implement engaging, inquiry-based lesson plans that promote differentiation and cross-curricular themes.
- Utilize modern educational technology, laboratory equipment, and hands-on experiments to enhance student learning.
- Create a safe, stimulating, and inclusive classroom environment that fosters scientific inquiry and critical thinking.
- Develop and refine curriculum guides, schemes of work, and teaching plans in collaboration with the Science Department.
- Ensure the availability and proper use of teaching materials, laboratory resources, and safety equipment.
Assessment and Student Progress:
- Design and administer formative and summative assessments aligned with international standards.
- Analyze assessment data to identify areas for improvement and adjust teaching strategies accordingly.
- Provide timely, constructive feedback to students to support their academic growth and exam preparation.
- Prepare students for external examinations (IGCSE, A-Level, IB, or equivalent).
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and communicate effectively with parents regarding academic and social development.
Student Support and Pastoral Care:
- Serve as a homeroom teacher or advisor to a group of students (if applicable).
- Implement and promote the school's Character Education program and behavioral expectations.
- Support students with additional educational needs in collaboration with the Learning Support team.
- Monitor student safety and welfare during lessons, laboratory work, and school activities.
- Build positive relationships with students, fostering their sense of well-being, belonging, and academic confidence.
Professional Collaboration and Development:
- Collaborate closely with Science Department colleagues to develop and enhance the Chemistry curriculum.
- Participate actively in department meetings, professional learning communities, and school-wide initiatives.
- Engage in ongoing professional development programs to enhance teaching practice and subject knowledge.
- Mentor and support colleagues, particularly new teachers, in line with the school's global education model.
- Contribute to enrichment programs, extracurricular activities, and special events (e.g., science fairs, competitions).
Community Engagement:
- Build and maintain positive relationships with parents, fostering trust and collaboration.
- Communicate school policies, curriculum updates, and student progress effectively to parents and stakeholders.
- Participate in parent-teacher conferences, open days, and promotional events to support admissions and retention efforts.
- Represent the Science Department at school events, educational conferences, and community activities.
Qualifications and Requirements
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related science field. Master's degree highly preferred.
- Valid teaching qualification or certification (B.Ed, M.Ed, PGCE, QTS, or equivalent).
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience in Chemistry at the secondary level.
- Familiarity with international curricula (e.g., IB MYP/DP, IGCSE, A-Level, or American curriculum).
- Experience in curriculum development, assessment design, and laboratory management.
- Proven track record of preparing students for external examinations and achieving strong academic results.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to inspire, engage, and motivate students with diverse learning needs and backgrounds.
